ST. AUGUSTINE. –
Lexie Morton scored six goals for No. 15 (IWLCA Division II Top 25 Poll) Flagler College in its first Gulf South Conference game of the season against Lee University this afternoon. The Saints beat the Flames 21-12.
The Saints now sit 1-0 in conference play and 9-1 overall making this their seventh win in a row. The Flames are now 5-6 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The Saints and Flames fired back and forth keeping the score even for the beginning of the first quarter. The Saints started to pull away with five minutes left in the quarter with Morton scoring her first hat trick of the game as the Saints took an 8-4 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Morton's second goal in today's game allowed her to break the Saints record for goals in a single-season. She now has 38.
The Saints maintained this lead the entire game with goals from eight different players including five goals from Katelyn Trainor and a hat trick from Jessica Wright.
Despite being outscored in the end, Flames goalie Caleigh Smith managed seven saves and Brittney White won 18 draw controls.
Defensively for the Saints, Ella Pinder caused three turnovers and goalie
Lauren Ribadeneira had nine saves.
Molly Sloan and Morton picked up four ground balls each.
The Saints will be hitting the road for their next game on March 29 at 4 p.m. against Lynn University.
