ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jaylen Lemons scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and tallied five assists in Flagler College's 75-63 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Georgia Southwestern evened its overall record to 11-11 and improved to 4-9 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 11-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Flagler had built up a 35-23 lead late in the first half, but Georgia Southwestern closed with a 10-0 run to trail by two (35-33) at the half.
Tyler Collier gave the Saints a 39-35 lead early in the second half. Reggie Raynor used an old-fashioned three-point play, a basket and a free throw, to begin a 19-5 run by the Hurricanes. Jordan Johnson ended the run with a three-pointer to give GSW a 54-44 lead midway through the second half.
Flagler got as close as four points (56-52) after a
Jax Bouknight jumper with 6:13 left in the game. The Saints could not get any closer.
Malik Bryant added 12 points and six rebounds for Flagler.
Omar Figueroa and Bouknight each scored 10 points. Bouknight also tallied five assists.
Phillip Burwell led the Hurricanes with 17 points, all in the first half. Raynor added 16 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Johnson tacked on 12 points. Devon Higgs grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds while Jamari Dean corralled 10 more.
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
