ST. AUGUSTINE –
Omar Figueroa scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half as Flagler College rallied to defeat Lander University 73-70 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.
Flagler improved to 13-16 overall and 7-11 in the Peach Belt. The Saints will be the No. 7 seed and travel to face No. 2 seed Augusta University on Thursday at 5 p.m. Lander falls to 20-8 overall and 12-6 in conference play. The Bearcats earn the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Young Harris College.
The Saints trailed 66-59 with 4:45 left to go and closed the game on a 10-4 run.
Malik Bryant drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 66 and with 1:16 left on the clock,
Jax Bouknight came up with a timely steal and managed to call timeout as he wrestled the ball away from the Lander player.
Figueroa sealed the game with a layup with just over one minute left in regulation to give the Saints a 70-66 lead. He capped the scoring by making the first of two free throws with five seconds left.
Bryant finished with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Tyler Collier added 12 points.
Dominic Stanford and Jacob Cooper each scored 16 points for the Bearcats. Navaughn Maise added 12 points and nine rebounds.
