INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 4 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College edged No. 14 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 4-3 in the seventh-place match at the ITA National Indoor Championship Sunday afternoon at the UIndy Tennis Center.
Flagler evened its record at 2-2 while Embry-Riddle (0-5) is still searching for its first win.
It all came down to No. 5 singles.
Jagger Ong-Patzwald and Lukas Schneider split the first two sets, but Ong-Patzwald rolled to a 6-1 win in the third set to win the match for Flagler.
The Saints secured the doubles point as
Petr Cervinka and
Jacopo Denitto won their match to clinch the point and
Philipp Lemken and
Pavlos Parson won their match 6-2.
Flagler held a 3-1 lead after Cervinka and Denitto won their matches. The Eagles won matches at Nos. 3 and 6 to square the match at 3-all.
Up next for the Saints will be a match at Florida Southern College on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lakeland.
