INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 5 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Wayne State University edged No. 4 Flagler College 4-3 in a quarterfinal match in the ITA National Indoor Championship Friday evening at the UIndy Tennis Center.
Flagler got off to a great start with a pair of wins in doubles to secure the team point.
Jagger Ong-Patzwald and
Nikita Tatyanin defeated the No. 8-ranked doubles team of Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey, 6-4.
Philipp Lemken and PAvlos Parson defeated Niklas Karcz and Denali Kitayama by the same score.
Tatyanin knocked off No. 10 Dom Spicer at No. 1 singles in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-1).
Petr Cervinka accounted for the other Flagler win in singles as he bested Karcz 7-6 (4) and 6-3.
Flagler will face top-ranked Barry University tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation round. The Buccaneers lost 4-0 to the host school, University of Indianapolis, earlier in the day.
