Saints lose a heartbreaker to the Bobcats Wednesday night

ST. AUGUSTINE – Omar Figueroa scored a season-high 28 points for Flagler College in a heart-breaking 89-88 loss to Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Georgia College improved to 7-13 overall and 3-8 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 11-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

The Saints trailed for the majority of the game and rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half. They took the lead (88-87) on Figueroa's three-pointer with 10 seconds left to go. But Georgia College's Brandon Rigsbee drove the lane and drew a foul with 1.1 seconds left in regulation. He calmly stepped to the line and sank both shots.

Figueroa finished 11-of-19 from the field, and he sank four treys. He added six rebounds and three steals to his line. Jax Bouknight tallied 17 points and dished out seven assists. Kyle Young and Chase Fiddler contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Austin Sloan led the Bobcats with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including making six three-pointers. He added nine rebounds. Rigsbee finished with 18 points and seven rebounds while Richard Crawford tacked on 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Chapin Rierson came off the bench to provide 11 points.

Up next for the Saints is a conference showdown at Columbus State University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
