MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Beka Benge scored a career-high 21 points, all coming on seven 3-pointers, to lead Flagler College to a 76-46 rout of Talladega College in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday afternoon at the Florida Tech Holiday Classic at the Clemente Center.
Benge's seven treys ties a school record. Kierra Crane was the last Flagler player to make seven 3-pointers in a game, which happened Nov. 10, 2018 against Lincoln Memorial University. Both are alumni of St. Cloud High School in Kissimmee, Florida.
Flagler evened its record to 5-5 while Talladega lost its eighth game in a row and dropped to 3-8. The Saints will break for Christmas and return to the court on Dec. 30 in an exhibition game at Stetson University.
The Saints used a 12-0 run that ended the first quarter and extended into the opening moments of the second quarter to wipe out a 9-7 deficit.
Jessica Dowdy sank a pair of three-pointers to put Flagler ahead for good.
Flagler held a 37-15 lead at the break and would lead by as many as 31 in the second half.
Destiny McClendon added 16 points for the Saints, including making all eight free throws. Dowdy chipped in with 10 points.
Se'Lah Reddick grabbed seven rebounds and dished out eight assists.
Dane Bertolina also finished with eight assists.
The Saints made 14 three-pointers, the most since making 13 against Lincoln Memorial (Nov. 10, 2018) and just one shy of the program record (vs. Warner Southern College, Jan. 29, 2008). The 28 forced turnovers caused by the Flagler defense was the most by the program since inducing 29 turnovers vs. UNC Pembroke, Jan. 9, 2020.
Arieonna Booker led the Tornadoes with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
