Baptiste Mercier tops the preseason ITA Division II men's tennis singles ranking sponsored by Tennis-Point, which were released this afternoon. Fellow junior
Jacopo Denitto is ranked No. 7.
Mercier is the highest ranked tennis player in the NCAA Division II era at Flagler. Ricardo Mena finished the 1999 year ranked No. 1 in the NAIA.
"Congratulations to Baptiste being ranked No. 1 and Jacopo No. 7 in the country," said head coach
Jonas Piibor. "This ranking was well earned by putting in the hard work."
Mercier, a transfer from Cameron University, completed the fall season with a 15-7 overall record in singles. He was the runner-up in the ITA Southeast Regional, but went on to win the ITA Cup.
Denitto posted an 11-9 overall singles record in the fall and won the ITA Southeast Regional title.
"I know both of them, and the rest of the team, are hungry for this upcoming spring season and understand the work that needs to be done between now and the spring," said Piibor.
Mercier and Denitto are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the ITA Southeast Region rankings.
Philipp Lemken is ranked No. 10. In doubles, Mercier and
Simon Malis are ranked No. 6 while Lemken and Adamek Makary check I at No. 7 in the region.
Flagler opens the spring season in February.
