DAHLONEGA, Ga. –
Andrea Fernandez scored on a rebound of her penalty kick in the 64
th minute, but Flagler College could not find the back of the net again as it fell 2-1 to Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament semifinal match Friday night at the UNG Soccer Complex.
Columbus State, the No. 2 seed, improved to 12-4-1 overall and advances to the championship match on Sunday. Flagler, the No. 3 seed, is now 11-4-3 overall and will wait an see if it receives one of the five at-large berths to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The bracket release is Monday at 6:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
The Lady Cougars got on the board early when Anna Grady scored in the eighth minute. Columbus State added to its lead in the 60
th minute when Grady found Sarah Hungerford at the near post. Hungerford slotted the ball in between the post and the keeper.
Fernandez had a chance at an equalizer, just outside the goal box, with about 10 minutes left, but that attempt was saved.
Henley Grunst finished with a pair of saves for Flagler. Lizzie Headrick made 10 saves for Columbus State.
The Saints out-shot the Lady Cougars 26-8, but Columbus State held an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
