GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Flagler College volleyball team was swept by the Lander University Bearcats (22-25, 15-25, 21-25) in Greenwood, S.C. on Wednesday night in Finis Horne Arena.
The Bearcats took the early lead in set one at 7-4, then extended it to 12-7. A kill from
Cecilia Robert and back to back aces from
Edie Lamoreaux brought the Saints within one point at 15-14. The set was tied at 17-17 after a block from Robert and
Gracie Fleming, but it was not enough and the Bearcats took set one 25-22.
Set three started much like the first with Lander taking the early lead at 5-2, then 12-8. The momentum shifted after a timeout from Flagler, which helped push the Saints to five straight points to take the lead 14-13. The Bearcats saw the same happen for them after a timeout, taking back their lead and eventually taking the set to end the match.
Jordan Berglin led the Saints with 7 kills and hit .208 on the night.
Amelia Fitzpatrick posted 6 kills, 3 blocks, 9 assists and 9 digs. Lamoreaux led with 16 digs, adding two service aces for the Saints.
Lander improved to 25-3 overall and 9-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 6-18 overall and 3-8 in league play.
Katie Miller was the leader for the Bearcats with 15 kills. Lauren Dow posted a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs.
Flagler will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. to face Georgia College & State University on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. in the Centennial Center.
