MERCER, Ga. – The Flagler College men's tennis team went head-to-head with some NCAA Division I competition at the Mercer Gridiron Classic (Oct. 6-8) at the Randy Stephens Tennis Courts.
Baptiste Mercier and
Simon Malis took the doubles title with an 8-2 win over Vicente Arbelaez and Yeray Andres Pastor of Troy University.
Makary Adamek shined in singles play with a 3-1 record. He won the finals in the back draw of Flight B with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 win over Victor Putter of Mercer University.
Philipp Lemken and Mercier also went 2-1 in singles over the weekend. Both made it to the finals of a back draw where they were to face each other, but the match was cancelled.
Adamek and Lemken posted a 2-1 record in doubles as did
Diego Amilibia and
Asher Willenborg. Amilibia and Willenborg advanced to the finals of Flight B. They lost 8-1 to David Jeanne Grandinot and Matteo Lataste of Alabama State University.
Joining Flagler at the tournament were Alabama State University, Auburn University at Montgomery, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, Mercer University, Middle Georgia State College, and Troy University.
Jacopo Denitto and Mercier will play in this weekend's ITA Cup at Rome, Georgia. Both open singles competition on Thursday at 9 a.m.
