ST. AUGUSTINE –
Andrea Fernandez scored three goals to help No. 9 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College defeat Clayton State University 4-2 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon on "Senior Day" at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 7-0-3 overall and 3-0-2 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State dropped to 3-5-2 overall and 2-4-0 in league play.
Fernandez scored the first goal of the match just 46 seconds into the contest. With that goal, she broke the school record for points, which was held by Charlène Nowotny who had 115 points from 2016-19.
Mikayla Lambert added a goal in the 44
th minute to give the Saints a 2-1 lead going into the half.
Fernandez added two more goals in the second half for insurance.
Henley Grunst recorded two saves for Flagler before giving way to senior
Nadia Fung. She recorded one save in the seven-plus minutes she played in.
Fung, along with
Moa Arlebo,
Alycia Dowling,
Elke Fernandez,
Elizabeth Hall, and
Eilidh McHattie were honored before the match on "Senior Day."
Laker keeper Lisa Kelm finished with five saves.
Each team had 15 shots in the match, but Flagler enjoyed a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Flagler hosts Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
