ST. AUGUSTINE –
Mikayla Lambert scored the lone goal in the match, just before halftime, as No. 9 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College edged Barry University in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday evening at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 6-0-3 while Barry dropped to 3-4-2.
In the 42
nd minute, a pass to the top of the box got deflected out by a Barry player, but the ball went right to Lambert. From the top of the arc, Lambert's left-footed shot curled into the top right corner of the goal.
Andrea Fernandez led the Saints with six shots, and she had Flagler's only other shot on frame. Tessa Evans finished with five shots for Barry and had two of the team's four shots on goal.
Henley Grunst recorded her sixth shutout of the season and made four saves. Maya Caon tallied one save for the Buccaneers.
Barry out-shot Flagler 14-13 while both teams had four corner kicks.
Up next for Flagler is Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference match on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Saints Field. Prior to the game Flagler will honor its six seniors.
