Nadja Meier loses in ITA Cup singles final

ROME, Ga. – Flagler College's Nadja Meier lost in this morning's ITA Cup women's singles final to Salma Djoubri of Lynn University 7-6(2) and 6-1 at the Rome Tennis Center.

Meier, who was the No. 2 seed, is the first Flagler women's player to advance this far in the ITA Cup. The ITA Cup matches the winners of each Division II regional championship in the country in singles and doubles.

She started out by rolling over Jazmin Zamorano of the University of Nebraska-Kearney 6-2, 6-3 in Thursday's Round of 16. Meier followed that with a dominant performance against Lexie Weir of Nova Southeastern University, 6-1 and 6-2, in the quarterfinal round. She had a walkover in the semifinal round before facing the top seed, Djoubri, in this morning's final.

Meier was there with teammate Dana Heimen for the doubles competition. They defeated Alex Mann and Brooke Fager of Biola University, 6-4 and 6-1. However, they were defeated in the quarterfinal round 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 by Freya Davies and Natalie Espinal of Nova Southeastern. In the consolation round, Meier and Heimen pocketed one more win as they defeated Maja Jung and Lara Schmid of Washburn University 7-5 and 7-5.

The women's tennis team concludes the fall season at the Nova Southeastern Fall Invitational, Oct. 27-29, at the NSU Tennis Complex.
