No. 11 Flagler upset at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Annika Seifart and Claire Regnault each scored a goal to help Lander University upset No. 11 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.

Lander improved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 8-1-3 overall and 4-1-2 in league play.

Seifart's goal came in the 42nd minute. After Flagler was called for being offside, Bearcat keeper Leah Hayes Coen booted the free kick to Korina Byland who headed the ball to Seifart at the top of the box. Seifart chipped the keeper with her right foot to give the Bearcats the lead.

Regnault scored an unassisted goal in the 76th minute for insurance.

Maddie Poole led Flagler with four shots in the match, three of which were on goal.

Henley Grunst recorded three saves for the Saints. Coen turned in a clean sheet and had six saves.

Lander outshot Flagler 13-12 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Flagler hosts the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Wednesday (Oct. 18) at 4 p.m. at Saints Field.
