AIKEN, S.C. –
Malik Bryant poured in a season-high 30 points to help lead Flagler College to a 90-82 win over USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Flagler improved to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken had its five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The loss was the first at home for USC Aiken.
"That's a team win right there," said head coach
Blake Selland. "Everyone played a huge part in the win. Road wins are not easy in this league and to see us go out and compete for 40 minutes was great."
The Saints never trailed in the game and had a 17-point (56-39) lead just before halftime. The Pacers rallied back to cut the deficit to six (86-80) after a Jameel Rideout layup with 43 seconds left, but it was just too late.
Bryant made 12-of-16 from the field and added five assists to go along with four rebounds.
Kyle Young contributed 14 points and nine rebounds while
Jaylen Lemons and
Chase Fiddler added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Jax Bouknight dished out a career-high six assists.
The Saints shot a blistering 64.7 percent (22-34) from the field in the first half, which helped Flagler take a 56-42 lead. The Saints made 50 percent (11-22) of their shots from three-point range led by Lemons' four treys.
Jalen McCoy tallied 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Pacers. Tehree Horn added 14 points and six rebounds. Karon Boyd and Rideout scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Flagler visits Americus, Georgia on Wednesday to face Georgia Southwestern State University.
