AMERICUS, Ga. –
Kyle Young scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to help Flagler College wipe out a three-point halftime deficit and defeat Georgia Southwestern State University 83-72 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Wednesday night at the Storm Dome.
Flagler evened its overall record at 8-8 and improved to 2-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern dropped to 7-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
With the score tied at 38 early in the second half, Young scored nine of Flagler's points in a 12-2 run that gave the Saints the lead for good, 50-40.
Malik Bryant sank a three-pointer with 13:54 left to cap the spurt.
Young was nearly flawless shooting as he made 8-of-11 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line. He grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Jaylen Lemons scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half while Bryant scored 13 of his 20 points in the final half.
Jax Bouknight tallied a team-high five assists.
The Saints made 15 three-pointers and shot 48.4 percent from behind the arc, including making 64.3 percent in the second half alone. Flagler made 60 percent of its baskets in the final 20 minutes.
Phillip Burwell led the Hurricanes with 18 points and seven assists.
Brian Tolefree added 15 points while Devon Higgs recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Flagler hosts No. 22 (NABC Division II Top 25) Young Harris College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
