Saints edge Bearcats in overtime

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Jaylen Lemons led five players in double-figures with 19 points as Flagler College defeated Lander University 97-86 in overtime in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Finis Horne Arena.

Flagler improved to 11-10 overall and evened its Peach Belt record at 5-5. Lander had its five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

"Road wins are not easy," said head coach Blake Selland. "I was proud of our guy's fight and tough chin. We talk about these moments. This was a team win."

The game featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Lander's Chandler Lindsey's basket with 30 seconds left tied the score at 79 and that's where it stood at the end of regulation. However, Flagler scored the first five points in overtime and never looked back. The Saints were a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line in the extra session and was a perfect 22-for-22 from the charity stripe. The 100 percent accuracy ties the program's NCAA Division II era record, which was a 12-for-12 effort at the University of North Georgia (Jan. 17, 2022).

Omar Figueroa scored seven of his 15 points in overtime for the Saints. He sank all 10 of his free throws and also grabbed nine rebounds. Kyle Young added 18 points and five rebounds while Jax Bouknight tacked on 16 points. Chase Fiddler finished with 12 points. Malik Bryant chipped in with eight points and five assists.

Noah Dunn poured in a game-high 38 points with the help of eight made three-pointers. Jared Sherfield added 15 points and seven rebounds while Tommy Moore supplied 14 points. Lindsey grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Lander took 73 shots from the field in the entire game, and 52 of those were from three-point range. They made 15 treys.

Flagler hosts Georgia College & State University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
