ST. AUGUSTINE –
Kyle Young sank a pair of free throws with 0.9 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime but No. 22 (NABC Division II Top 25) Young Harris College escaped with an 89-84 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Young Harris improved to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 8-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Flagler hosts the University of North Georgia on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Young's clutch free throws sent the game into overtime and
Chase Fiddler opened the extra session with a pair of free throw makes to give the Saints a 78-76 lead. The Mountain Lions scored the next seven points and never trailed again.
Young recorded his seventh double-double with 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
Malik Bryant tallied a team-high 23 points.
Omar Figueroa came off the bench to contribute 13 points.
Jax Bouknight dished out five assists and
Boom Reeves had three blocked shots.
Flagler knocked down 50 percent (8-of-16) of its three-pointers in the first half and made 17.6 percent (3-of-17) the rest of the game.
Karl Chavis notched a double-double for Young Harris as he scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Josh Petteno added 19 points and seven rebounds while Lenny Pradia tacked on 13 points. Nate Dunlop finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
The game featured 14 ties and 12 lead changes.
