GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Flagler College men's soccer team dropped a road conference match at Lander University, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon.

"I cannot fault the team's effort, they worked hard and competed from the first whistle to the last," said interim head coach
Thomas Coombes. "We just lacked a bit of quality in key moments today and that was the difference between the two teams. We will take the positives and learn from the negatives and look to improve ahead of the next game."

Lander (5-2-4, 4-0-2) got on the board first, when Alistair Danjon scored on an assist from Kevin Rubaszewski in the 14
th minute to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. Â

Flagler (4-3-2, 3-2-1) answered back in the 21st minute to even the score, 1-1.
Paul Hansen netted his second goal of the season from the edge of the box on an assist from
Jed Bowman who was in the top right corner of the field.

Just over two minutes later, the Bearcats took a 2-1 lead when Marco Gueli scored his sixth goal of the season after he was assisted by Danjon. Lander held onto the lead through the second half to claim the victory.

Lander held the advantage in shots (11-5), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (7-1). Both teams made two saves on the day.

The men's soccer team hosts Young Harris College for a PBC match Monday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Saints Field.
