ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College men's soccer team shut out Young Harris College, 1-0, Monday afternoon to earn its first win against the Mountain Lions since 2012. The Saints are now 2-10-2 all-time against Young Harris and 1-5 at Saints Field, as today marked the first home win against the Mountain Lions.

"Today was a big win for this team and for our program," said interim head coach
Thomas Coombes. "It gives us the belief that when we work together and trust one another we can beat anyone. We will enjoy today but our focus has already turned to Clayton State and another tough game this weekend!"

The Saints (5-3-2, 4-2-1 PBC) got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
George Winser was in the top left corner of the field when he sent a free kick into the middle of the box.
Miles Shanley scored his second goal of the season after he headed the free kick into the right side of the net.Â

The Mountain Lions (4-3-3, 3-2-2 PBC) made an effort to get on the board in the second half but Flagler's goalkeeper,
Tirso Trueba, made two saves in the final 45 minutes to secure the 1-0 victory, earning his second shutout of the year.Â

Flagler controlled the tempo of the game and held the advantage in shots (15-9), shots on goal (5-2) and corner kicks (11-6).Â

The Saints travel to Morrow, Georgia, for a conference match at Clayton State University Saturday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. for the teams' second meeting this season. In the last meeting, the Lakers defeated the Saints, 2-0, at Saints Field Sept. 17.
