ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College men's soccer team fell to Clayton State University, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference match.
"We were confident ahead of the game that we would get a positive result and we are obviously very disappointed as we felt it was a missed opportunity," said interim head coach
Thomas Coombes. "If you don't take your chances when they are presented, good teams and good players will punish you and that's what happened today. We will take the positives and look to bounce back on Wednesday."
The game started slowly, with Flagler (2-2-2, 1-1-1) taking four shots in the first 34 minutes, while the Lakers took three shots.
Clayton State (3-3-2, 2-2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after Langston Blackstock scored on a penalty kick. Blackstock sealed the 2-0 game after scoring his second goal of the day in the 51st minute on a long feed from Hector Fuentes.
Flagler had a 9-8 edge in shots, while Clayton State had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Lakers also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Clayton State's David Magala tallied five saves while
Tirso Trueba made four stops for Flagler.
