ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College men's soccer team hosted Florida Southern College in a mid-week, non-conference matchup where the game ended in a 1-1 tie Tuesday night.
The match started slowly, as both teams took a combined seven shots in the first 35 minutes. In the 36th minute, the Moccasins (2-2-2) pulled goalkeeper
Tirso Trueba out of the goal on the left side of the box, allowing Henri Tophoven to score low-right on an open net.
Flagler (2-1-2) answered back not even five minutes later to tie the game, 1-1.
Filip Sparavec scored his first goal with the Saints after he received a feed up the left sideline from
Camilo Vera, launching the ball into the back of the goal from the left side of the box.
Florida Southern came out hot in the second half, taking 10 shots to Flagler's five shots. However, both teams could not follow through on their shots, ending the full 90 minutes with a 1-1 score.
The Moccasins held a 10-5 advantage in shots, while the Saints had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and 7-6 favor in corner kicks. Trueba made two stops in the cage, while AJ Pearce made three saves for Florida Southern.
Flagler returns to Saints Field for its second of three-straight home games to host Clayton State Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m.
