HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The first season of Flagler College men's lacrosse is in the books following a Peach Belt Conference Semifinal Tournament match, where top-seeded University of Alabama in Huntsville edged the fourth-seeded Saints, 12-9, at Charger Park Friday night.
The Saints conclude their first year of varsity competition with a 3-14 record, while the Chargers advance to the PBC Tournament Finals to face University of Montevallo.
UAH was in control for the first 45 minutes, entering the final quarter behind a 11-3 lead. Flagler came out firing and battled to the bitter end.
Tyler Douglass scored less than 60 seconds into the final period and scored yet again a minute and a half later, cutting the lead to 11-5.
Geraint Shaw was up next (11-6), scoring within 60 seconds of Douglass' goal with
Drew Flagg, the PBC Co-Freshman of the Year, assisting. Flagg then got a point the other way, bringing the Saints within three.
The gap closed to two — following goals from
Ty Tom and
Thomas Pritchard — and came as close to one after Flagg ripped a shot off the pipe with 48 seconds left. The Chargers then scored an empty net goal to seal the game.
Douglass finished with a hat trick, his third of the season. On defense, Tom and
Stone Foster caused a pair of turnovers. Saints' goalkeeper
Nate Lehr finished with 14 saves.
The young team now turns its sights to the 2023 season, where head coach
Brian Duncan and his staff will look to build on the foundation that was set this year.
