COLUMBUS, Ga. – The sixth-ranked, top-seeded Flagler College men's tennis team finished runner-up at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, losing to second-seeded and top-ranked Columbus State University, 4-0, at the John W Walden Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
Flagler, who is currently No. 1 in the southeast region with an opportunity to host, will now turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament. The Saints (16-5) will find out who they will face when the selection show airs this coming Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
The opening trio of doubles matches was just as competitive as when these two teams met in the regular season. The teams again split the first two matches, with Flagler winning at third and CSU at second, leaving the ranked showdown at first to decide the fate of the opening point. For Flagler, it was No. 17
Oscar Del Granado and
Philipp Lemken against No. 6 Alvaro Regalado and Javier Cueto Ramos. The Cougars duo got the only break they needed to win 7-5 and give the host team a 1-0 lead.
In singles, CSU recorded three straight set wins at second, fourth and fifth singles to clinch the tournament title.
