ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – For the seventh time this year, the No. 6 Flagler College men's tennis team swept their opponent, crusing past No. 20 Anderson University, 4-0, for the Saints' first home regional win that advanced them in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Southeast Regional at the Flagler Tennis Center Monday.
The Saints, who are seeded second in the Southeast Region, await the winner of sixth-seeded Wingate University and third-seeded the University of North Georgia, which immediately followed this match. The Saints will play for a spot in the Sweet Sixteen Tuesday at 1 p.m.
The Saints took care of business in doubles like they have all year. On court two,
Nikita Tatyanin and
Jagger Ong-Patzwald earned their 14th win together behind a 6-3 result in less than a half hour. Five minutes later, No. 17
Oscar Del Granado and
Philipp Lemken secured the 1-0 lead with the same result as their second doubles compatriots. Third doubles were deadlocked at 4-all at the time of the clinch.
In singles play, Flagler was in control on all six courts. No. 40 Del Granado had no issues on court one, taking down Greyson Doscotch in less than an hour, 6-1, 6-2 for his 13th win of the spring. No. 37 Tatyanin followed Del Granado up with a 6-2, 6-1 result of his own on court two.
Cervinka sent the Saints to the regional finals with his win on court three, posting a 6-4, 6-1 result. Next to Cervinka, Lemken won the first set 7-5 after breaking at 5-5 and holding serve at 6-5.
Jacopo Denitto moved to court five for this match and was up 6-4, 2-1 while
Cedric Holzmann was also up a set, 6-3, 3-2, on court six.
