GREENWOOD, S.C. –
John Fiorenza went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead Flagler College to an 8-2 win over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
Flagler snapped a seven-game losing streak and improved to 17-20 overall and 10-7 in the Peach Belt. Lander slipped to 19-18 overall and 9-8 in conference play.
The Saints plated a run in the first two innings, but broke the game open when Fiorenza belted a two-run home run to center field in the top of the fourth to give Flagler a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Matthew Burke hit a run-scoring triple to right-center.
Flagler added single tallies in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings.
Gabriel Patridge (3-3) picked up the win as he scattered five hits and allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters.
Ryan Ayrey finished the game and tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Ashton Thomas collected a pair of singles, scored a run and drove in a pair.
Mason Gray hit a single, scored three runs and stole two bases.
Nick Foray (2-2) took the loss for the Bearcats. He allowed five runs, four of which were earned, and five hits in four innings of work.
Caleb Singleton hit a triple and scored a run.
The final game of the series is tomorrow at noon.
NOTE: Today was head coach Dave Barnett's 999
th win in his career.
