Saints down Hurricanes for sixth straight win

ST. AUGUSTINE — Fifteenth-ranked Flagler College jumpstarted its first of three matches within a four-day span behind a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday in a Peach Belt Conference dual at the Flagler Tennis Center.
 
The victory marked the sixth in a row for the Saints (8-4, 2-0 PBC) as they will now travel to Rollins College for a match with the 29th-ranked Tars at 2 p.m. tomorrow, while Georgia Southwestern (1-8, 0-4) heads back to Americus.
 
With thunderstorms incoming, the teams played singles first in case it approached quicker than expected. On court six, Florencia Massardo Brain won by default due to the Hurricanes being short a player and from there, the Saints rolled.
 
Anika Nissen won her ninth straight with a double bagel on court four, while fifth-ranked Luisa Hrda followed with a straight-set win, 6-0 and 6-2, for her sixth in a row. Winning her seventh consecutive match, Alessandra Traub clinched the victory, 6-0 and 6-3, while Eden Schlagenhauf got back on track with a straight-set win on court two, 6-3 and 6-2. Addison Skye Breunich battled back from a set-one loss as she won the second before falling in a tiebreaker alike the first set.
 
In doubles, the 22nd-ranked doubles duo of Hrda and Schlagenhauf kept winning as the eighth straight came via their third bagel win; meanwhile Massardo and Breunich won their fourth in a row and second 6-1 decision.
