ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. –
Macy Schmidt posted her first collegiate hat trick to help lead Flagler College to an 17-8 Gulf South Conference victory over Shorter University at the Flagler Lacrosse Field Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Flagler improves to 8-6 on the year and 2-1 in GSC contests. Shorter falls to 2-9 and 0-2 in the GSC.
The game ended with12 minutes left in the fourth quarter due to inclement weather.
Flagler posted nine goals in the first quarter, the most in a single quarter since the first quarter of the Ave Maria game on February 12
th.
Sophia DeSimone got the offense started, scoring with 13:36 left, off an assist from
Jordan Green.
Kaitlyn Bush followed it up with a goal of her own and then
Kate Piscopo added a man-up goal to make the lead 3-0.
Zoe Howe added one more before Shorter got on the board, thanks to an Olivia Contento goal.
After that, it was all Flagler, who scoring nine unanswered goals and headed into halftime with a comfortable 14-2 lead.
In the second half,
Carson Harvill scored her first two goals of her collegiate career.
As a team, Flagler recorded goals from 10 different players. The Saints were a perfect 14-14 on clear attempts, while directly causing six of Shorter's eight turnovers.
Flagler continues GSC play next Saturday, April 9
th against Lander University at the Flagler Lacrosse Field at 1 p.m.
