YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The Flagler College softball team suffered a 6-1 loss Friday night in game one of a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Young Harris College.
The Saints (18-15, 4-6 PBC) took the early lead behind a second-inning
Alyssa Velez home run; however, Young Harris (15-14, 6-7) got that run back plus some when the home team spotted a six-run fifth inning.
Before then,
Taylor Scott (L, 4-4) only allowed one hit and a pair of walks before an infield single began the big fifth inning. The Mountain Lions built on that single with three more hits, including a two-run home run, which came to fruition following an error that happened after the leadoff single to put two on and zero outs.
Flagler responded with a pair of hits in the top of the sixth, but the Saints couldn't bat them in.
Kyleigh Taylor led the visitors with two hits, while
Olivia Parker had a double, Velez had the home run and
Mercedes Salinas and
Trinity Fry added singles.
The Saints will look to bounce back today with a doubleheader at the YHC Softball Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
