Chargers stifle Saints on senior day

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Lauren Ribadeneira recorded a season-high 16 saves as Flagler College was defeated by the University of Alabama in Huntsville, 21-12, in a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse contest at the Flagler Lacrosse Field Saturday afternoon.

The Saints fall to 9-7 on the season and 3-2 in GSC play. The Chargers are 8-6 and stay perfect in GSC play, moving to 5-0.

Before the game began, Flagler honored the first two seniors to be a part of the first-year program with Maggie Sorensen and Jordan Shughrue being honored for their contributions and hard to work to help shape the program.

The first half was a closely contested affair, with the two squads trading goals until the score was knotted up at four in the opening moments of the second quarter. The Chargers proceeded to score four of the final five second-quarter goals to enter halftime with an 8-5 lead.

UAH pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Flagler 6-3 for a 14-8 lead at the end of the quarter.

Madison Daziel led the offensive attack for Flagler, scoring a season-high five goals as she scored three of them off free position shots. Katelyn Trainor contributed two goals, while Kate Piscopo and Sydney Onega each scored one goal and tallied one assist.

UAH got eight goals from Cara Brown and an additional five from Sarah Farley to help send the Chargers back to Huntsville with the win.

Flagler hits the road for its final regular-season game, traveling to University of Montevallo  for a GSC contest next Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
