Nissen wins eighth straight match in Saints' 5-2 victory

ST. AUGUSTINE — The Flagler College women's tennis team dispatched Eastern Florida State College, 5-2, at the Flagler Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

The Saints have not lost a match since returning from ITA National Indoors, winning five straight to improve to 7-4. The Titans drop to 2-4 on the season.

For the second consecutive match, and third time in the last five, Flagler swept the opening doubles point. Third doubles finished finish, featuring a 6-1 win for Florencia Massardo Brain and Addison Skye Breunich for their third consecutive win at third doubles. Anika Nissen and Alessandra Traub earned a 6-4 win at second doubles to clinch the doubles point in the pairs fifth win together. No. 23 Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf completed the sweep in the team's seventh consecutive win with a 7-5 victory.

Singles play opened with Hrda, who was ranked the No. 3 singles player in the nation the day prior, and show why with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. The 6-0 second set is her third clean set of the year. The third point was secured by Nissen with a 6-1, 6-0 performance. Nissen has now won eight straight matches, last losing on February 5th.

The match was clinched by the latest Saint to make their appearance in the national rankings, No. 68 Traub, posting a 6-2, 6-4 for her first win as a nationally-ranked player, and fourth straight.

Massardo Brain represents the final point in her second come-from-behind win a row. After losing the first set 2-6, she railed and rolled past her opponent winning the final two sets 6-1.  
 
Flagler will play an exhibition match at the USTA National Tennis Center against Hillsborough Community College on Monday, March. 28, and then prepare for No. 8 Columbus State to come to St. Augustine for a Peach Belt Conference showdown on April 1.
