GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Tori Pearce scored a team-high 24 points and completed her 17
th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds in a 107-77 loss to No. 6 (WBCA Division II Top 25) Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal game Wednesday evening at Finis Horne Arena.
Lander, the No. 2 seed, improved to 22-3 overall and advances to the semifinal round where it will face the No. 6-seed, Clayton State University, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Dahlonega, Georgia. Flagler, the No. 7 seed, concluded its season with a 12-17 record.
The Bearcats opened the game on a 13-2 run and never trailed in the game. They made 52.9 percent of their shots in the first quarter, and limited the Saints to 21.1 percent, to take a 24-8 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Keegan Brace scored a season-high 15 points for Flagler.
Jaziana Mathis added eight points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Sophie VanDyke tied her career high with four blocked shots.
Makaila Cange led five Lander players in double-figures with 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Miriam Recarte recorded a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Aniaya Jester almost had a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Amiaya Melvins contributed 16 points and seven assists while Vashae Rideout tacked on 11 points.
