AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Flagler College softball team scored two seventh-inning runs, but the come-from-behind attempt wasn't enough as the Saints fell short in the Peach Belt Conference game one, 3-2, loss at Augusta University Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (13-12, 1-3 PBC) will look to bounce back against the Jaguars (12-15, 1-6) in a doubleheader Sunday, beginning at noon.
The seventh inning started as good as Flagler could have hoped with a comeback in mind.
Lucy Giebeig reached on an error, and then
Paige Maseda doubled in
Valerie Beltre (fielder's choice) from first base to put the Saints on the board.
Alyssa Velez, who led the Saints with three hits, kept the two-out rally going as she knocked in Maseda. With the tying run on first and down one,
Kyleigh Taylor was unable to bring her in as she flied out to second base.
A pair of RBI-doubles from Paige Patterson and an Olivia Biles' sac fly were the difference makers for the Jags as they were able to knock in runs, whereas the Saints left seven on base.
Maseda joined Velez with multi hits as she had a pair; meanwhile, Taylor,
Ari Bosch,
Courtney Robinson each had one.
Taylor Scott (L, 3-3) and
Rachel Hester split the six innings as Scott allowed a pair of runs on four hits and Hester allowed one on three hits.
