MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The sixth-ranked Flagler College women's tennis team opened its season with a tall task at top-ranked Barry University Saturday morning at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The Buccaneers (2-0) secured the doubles point and ran away with the 7-0 victory as the Saints (0-1) will look to bounce back tomorrow at Palm Beach Atlantic with a 1 p.m. match.
Alike the team's rankings, individually sixth-ranked
Luisa Hrda faced off with the nation's top singles' player. Hrda, the ITA Southeast Region champion from the fall, held strong with Deniz Khazan in the first set before she pulled away, winning 7-5 and 6-2.
Eden Schlagenhauf was the lone Saint to force a third set. The senior dropped the first set, but battled back with a set-two, 6-4, victory; however, Xiyao Wang edged her in the final set, 1-0 (10-8).
