ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jordan Shughrue scored four goals as Flagler College fell to Florida Tech 17-15 at Flagler Lacrosse Field Thursday night.
This was the first loss of the season for the Saints, who sit at 2-1 overall. This was the season opener for the Panthers.
Kayla Minton scored back to back goals within 30 seconds to make the score 16-10 with 9:33 left.
Another Panther penalty led to two more man-up goals for the Saints with
Kate Piscopo and
Madison Daziel suppling them, cutting the deficit to 16-13 with just over five minutes to play.
The Saints managed two more goals in the final minutes and were threatening to cut the lead to one, but with 30 seconds left, the Panthers forced a turnover to seal the game.
Katelyn Trainor and
Macy Schmidt made their Flagler debuts this evening and scored their first goals at Flagler. Daziel and
Carly LaFerriere each supplied three goals.
Florida Tech was led by Minton and Carly Niro who posted four goals each. Caroline MacLeod and Rachel Johnson each added three.
The Saints will look to return to the win column on Feb. 23 when they welcome Lynn University for a 5 p.m. game. That game will serve as the dedication game for the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
