ST. AUGUSTINE — The sixth-ranked Flagler College women's tennis team dropped a tough top-20 matchup to visiting 20th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery as the Saints fell 5-2 Saturday at the Flagler Tennis Center.
The Warhawks (3-1) edged the Saints (1-2) in doubles after the nationally-ranked duo of
Eden Schlagenhauf and
Alessandra Traub took the early lead. AUM secured the top-doubles point and solidified the doubles' point by a narrow tie-breaker on court three.
From there, the Warhawks won three straight singles as those came on courts six, three and two.
Anika Nissen and sixth-ranked
Luisa Hrda won their matches, coming on courts five and one respectively, but it was too late as AUM already had the four-point lead.
The Saints look to bounce back with an exhibition match with the State College of Florida Tuesday at the Flagler Tennis Center before heading to Oklahoma for the ITA National Indoor Championship, beginning Friday, February 25.
