ST. AUGUSTINE – For the eighth consecutive year, Flagler College is one of 44 NCAA Division II member institutions to be honored as part of the Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence for achieving a four-year Academic Success Rate of 90 percent or higher. This is the 12
th year of the program.
"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes and their commitment to their education," said John Delaney, president of Flagler College. "This award for academic excellence is not only a testament to their dedication but also recognizes the priority their coaches and families have placed on academics. Flagler student-athletes embody the best of Division II athletics. What makes this accomplishment even more profound is that Flagler College was ranked second in our regional category by the
U.S. News & World Report, meaning the academics on campus is even more difficult."
Flagler had an ASR of 91 percent. Last year was the College's eighth year in the 90
th percentile. Flagler is one of five schools in the state of Florida to receive the Presidents' Award. Georgia College is the only other Peach Belt Conference member institution to receive the award.
"I am excited to honor and recognize the 44 schools for this prestigious award," said Steven Shirley, president of Minot State and chair of the Division II Presidents Council. "It is a testament to their hard work, commitment and dedication to achieving academic excellence."
The Division II ASR includes transfers into a school in the calculation and removes those who transferred out while academically eligible. The ASR also includes the more than 30,000 non-scholarship student-athletes who were enrolled in the four years covered in the most recent data.
Even when using the less-inclusive federal graduation rate, student-athletes are outperforming their peers in the general student population by 8 percentage points. For Division II student-athletes, the federal rate is 60%, while the general student body federal rate is 52%.
