ST. AUGUSTINE –
Kyle Young recorded his third double-double of the year with a season-high 30 points and 12 rebounds in Flagler College's 94-83 loss at Savannah State University in a non-conference men's basketball game Thursday night at Tiger Arena.
Flagler is now 4-4 overall and Savannah State avenges its loss to the Saints last week and is now 3-2.
The Saints trailed by as many as 11 (23-12) in the first half, but fought back and cut the deficit to within one point (33-32) after a
Malik Bryant dunk with 5:44 left. The Tigers took a 46-43 lead into the half.
A layup by Young gave Flagler its first lead (50-49) with 17:32 left in the game, but a 17-2 run by Savannah State midway through the second half was too much for the Saints to overcome.
Omar Figueroa poured in a season-best 21 points for the Saints. Young added three assists and three blocked shots.
Tyler Collier added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Saints made a season-best 80 percent (16-20) of their free throws.
Eleik Bowles scored a game-high 40 points on 16-of-20 shooting from the field. Ayjay Plain and Za'Khari Cobb each added 20 points. Cobb tacked on five assists and four steals.
The Tigers forced 19 turnovers and converted those into 22 points.
Flagler's last game before exams is Saturday (Dec. 3) at Rollins College at 7 p.m.
