Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bain’s three with one second left gives Flagler the win in a barnburner

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Spencer Bain sank a three-pointer from the left corner with one second left to give Flagler College a 94-93 win over Rollins College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Warden Arena.

Flagler, playing its eighth game away from home this season, improved to 5-4. It was the first time in six games that the Saints came away victorious against the Tars. Rollins suffered its second consecutive loss and dropped to 3-4. Three of the Tars' four losses have been by a combined 11 points.

"It was a team win tonight," said head coach Blake Selland. "I am so proud of this team and coaching staff. We preached that we needed to have togetherness and we did tonight. Our goal was to hit 19 three-pointers and what a way to get 19."

In a game where neither team led by more than six points to go along with 21 ties and 30 lead changes during the game, it was not a surprise that it went down to the wire.

With eight seconds left and the score tied at 91, Rollins' Hutton Yenor drew a foul going for a rebound and he made both free throws to give the Tars the lead. But the Saints brought the ball up the floor and moved it around the perimeter. Jaylen Lemons spotted Bain open near the left corner and he buried the shot.

Bain scored a career-high 15 points – all coming on five 3-pointers. As a team, the Saints sank 19 treys, which was one shy of the program's NCAA Division II era record (at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Nov. 12, 2019). Bain added six assists.

Omar Figueroa came off the bench and scored a season-high 24 points as he made a team-best six 3-pointers. Chase Fiddler added a career-high 21 points, seven rebounds and he blocked five shots, also a career-best. Lemons finished with 17 points while Kyle Young recorded his third double-double in as many games with 14 points and 10 rebounds. It was his fourth double-double of the year. Young also had six assists and three blocked shots. Malik Bryant tallied six assists.

Flagler finished with 27 assists on 34 made field goals. The Saints transition game flourished with 26 points.

Yenor finished with a game-high 34 points for the Tars. He made 14-of-16 from the free throw line. Kyle Marion added 17 points.

Rollins made 77.3 percent (17-22) of its shots from the free throw line.

Flagler will take a break for exams and return to the court on Dec. 10 to open Peach Belt Conference play at the University of North Georgia at 3:30 p.m.
