Six Flagler players score in double figures in rout of Savannah State

ST. AUGUSTINE – Malik Bryant led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points as Flagler College rolled to an 86-50 win over Savannah State University Tuesday night at Flagler Gymnasium in its home opener.

Flagler improved to 4-3 on the season while Savannah State evened its record at 1-1.

"We preached playing together all week and it was awesome to see that tonight," said head coach Blake Selland. ""What a great atmosphere. When you get to play in front of a crowd like that, our team feeds off of it. I appreciate the community and the students who came to the game."

The Saints opened the game on a 15-4 run and never looked back. Flagler held a 46-22 lead at the half and limited the Tigers to 28.1 percent (9-32) shooting from the field.

Flagler led by as many as 38 late in the second half and shot a blistering 69.2 percent (18-26) from the field in the final 20 minutes. The Saints finished the game shooting 61.7 percent (37-60). That was the best shooting percentage for the program since Jan. 20, 2020 when Flagler made 62.7 percent of its shots vs. Young Harris College.

Bryant added six rebounds and four assists as he made 6-of-7 from the field. Chase Fiddler added 13 points and eight rebounds. Omar Figueroa chipped in with 11 points while Kyle Young recorded his second double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jaylen Lemons and Tyler Collier each contributed 10 points. Collier grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds for his first double-double as a Saint.

Eleik Bowles, Ayjay Plain and Warner Davis each scored 11 points for the Tigers.

The same two teams will meet on Dec. 1 at Savannah, Georgia.
