MOBILE, Ala. –
Omar Figueroa leads four Flagler College players in double figures with a season-best 19 points in a 77-72 win over Spring Hill College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Flagler evens its record at 3-3 while Spring Hill suffered its first loss in three games.
"Road games are not easy," said head coach
Blake Selland. "Our team is still learning and growing. I was really proud of our guys who stepped up and made big plays."
The Saints held a 14-point lead (35-21) with 4:29 left in the half and held a 36-28 lead at the break.
Flagler would build its lead back up to 14 (46-32) in the second half after a
Chase Fiddler free throw, but the Badgers would reel off the next 11 points to trim their deficit to one (46-45).
A Steven Lyles three-pointer with 7:08 left in the game gave Spring Hill its first lead (61-59) of the game.
Later, Fiddler sank a triple with six minutes left to the Saints a lead (64-63) they would not relinquish.
Kyle Young added 17 points and nine rebounds for Flagler.
Jaylen Lemons finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Fiddler ended with 10 points.
Beril Kabamba led the Badgers with a game-high 24 points. Tana Kopa tallied 15 points while Omri Vorotizky tacked on 14 more. Lyles tallied 11 points.
The Saints play their home opener on Tuesday against Savannah State University. The tip will be around 7 p.m.
