Flagler advances in PBC Tourney with a sweep of Young Harris

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Kennedy Muff tallied 26 assists and added eight digs as well as five kills in Flagler College's sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) of Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament first round match Thursday afternoon at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Flagler, the No. 3 seed, improved to 16-9. Young Harris, the No. 6 seed, had its season come to an end with a 3-28 record. Flagler advances to face No. 2 seed Lander University tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the first semifinal match.

Jordan Berglin paced the offense with a match-high 10 kills, six of which came in the third set where she hit .556. Audrey Simmons added nine kills and two total blocks while Logan Garcia had six kills and hit .500 on 12 errorless swings. Edie Lamoreaux led the defense with a match-high 13 digs and she added three aces. Cameron Fenner also had three aces. Molly Boyd recorded five total blocks.

Shelby Mullins led the Mountain Lions with eight kills. Mollie Lawrence tallied 19 assists and Joha Bernis collected 11 digs.

The Saints trailed by as many as six points (13-7) in the first set, but rallied to tie the score at 18 after Muff's second consecutive ace. With the score tied at 19, Simmons found an opening in the YHC defense to give Flagler a lead it would not relinquish. Simmons teamed with Boyd for a double-block to push the Saints lead to 21-19.

Flagler trailed early in the second set, but used an 8-1 run to take a commanding 16-10 lead. Lamoreaux had all three of her aces in that spurt.

A Berglin kill midway through the third set gave Flagler the lead for good at 15-14. Muff had 11 assists in the set.
