ST. AUGUSTINE –
Tori Pearce recorded Flagler College's second triple-double in four years with her 18-point, 10-rebound, and 10-assist effort in a 77-63 loss to No. 5 (WBCA Division II Top 25) Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Lander improved to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler has an even 10-10 overall mark and is 4-6 in conference play.
The last Flagler player to record a triple-double was Tabitha Odabe pulled off the feat at Young Harris College (Jan. 13, 2018).
"Lander played well today," said head coach
Mo Smith. "We knew we had to play well for four quarters, and I thought we had two not so good quarters, and that cost us. All the credit goes to Lander. They are a great team and well coached."
Keegan Brace's three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the first quarter gave the Saints a 21-11 lead.
The Bearcats scored 14 unanswered points over the next 2:38 and never trailed again.
Jaziana Mathis scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Flagler.
Sharale McCormick added 10 points, three assists and three steals.
Makaila Cange scored a game-high 23 points, and she completed the double-double with a game-high 18 rebounds for Lander. Amiaya Melvins added 15 points and eight rebounds while Miriam Recarte contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. Aniaya Jester tacked on 12 points and five assists.
The Bearcats knocked down 20-of-23 free throws. Lander also out-rebounded Flagler 50-37 and had 18 offensive boards that led to 20 second chance points.
Flagler heads to Milledgeville, Georgia on Feb. 2 to face Georgia College. The game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m.
