ROYSTON, Ga. – Flagler College had five players with five or more kills, nobody in double figures, in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-12) sweep of Emmanuel College in a non-conference volleyball match Saturday evening at the Shaw Athletic Center.
Flagler improved to 8-3 overall and won its third consecutive match. The Saints head to Augusta, Georgia on Friday (Oct. 1) to face Augusta University at 6 p.m. Emmanuel, a member of Conference Carolinas, dropped to 4-8.
Rachel Mahovec paced Flagler as she just missed a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs. She added four total blocks to her line.
Victoria Bowrosen added seven kills while
Arianna Lopez,
Logan Garcia, and
Jordan Berglin all finished with five kills.
Kennedy Muff tallied 27 assists and had a career-high five aces. Lopez added four block assists and
Cameron Fenner tacked on 11 digs.
Emily Hanson led Emmanuel with five kills. Gabrielle McGlamery registered 16 assists and Victoria Alexander collected 13 digs.
The Lions were limited to a -.043 hitting percentage in the match as they had 20 kills and 24 errors on 92 swings.
A double-block by Garcia and Muff wiped out a 12-11 Lions lead and sparked a 4-0 run by the Saints in the first set. The same duo ended the set on a block.
Flagler had 10 kills in the first set as Emmanuel had eight hitting errors and five more service errors.
The Saints opened the second set on a 5-1 run and never trailed. Flagler, again, took advantage of Emmanuel's miscues. The Lions hit -.207 in the set and had 10 hitting errors.
In the third set, Flagler rattled off four consecutive points to break up a 2-all tie.
Rachel Machovec started the spurt with one of her five kills in the set and ended it with a block with Lopez.
Brooke Singleton added an ace in the run.
