YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –
Victoria Bowrosen collected a match-high 12 kills and
Rachel Machovec added 10 more as Flagler College swept Young Harris College 3-0 (25-16, 25-7, 25-14) in a Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball match Friday night at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.
Flagler improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints will take on Emmanuel College of Franklin Springs, Georgia, tomorrow at 5 p.m. to conclude the team's first weekend road trip of the season. Young Harris dropped to 3-9 overall and tonight's match was its conference opener.
The Saints hit a season-best .379 thanks to 44 kills and 11 errors on 87 swings.
Logan Garcia hit at a .538 clip with eight kills, and she added four total blocks.
Rachel Machovec finished with a .412 hitting percentage while
Arianna Lopez collected five kills with one error on six swings for a .667 mark.
Kennedy Muff tallied 33 assists while Rachel and
Rebekah Machovec each gathered eight digs.
Lily Hidalgo led the Mountain Lions with six kills. Joha Bernis collected seven digs. Young Harris was limited to a .026 hitting percentage with 18 kills and 16 errors on 77 swings.
A
Rachel Machovec kill sparked a 13-3 run, which gave the Saints a commanding 18-8 lead in the first set. A double-block by
Jordan Berglin and
Arianna Lopez ended the set. Lopez hit a perfect 1.000 as she had three kills on three swings.
In the second set, Flagler sprinted out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back. The Saints ran off 14 points in a row to break a 2-all tie. Bowrosen led Flagler with six kills.
A 5-1 run midway through the third set gave Flagler just enough separation to complete the sweep. A kill by
Molly Boyd ignited the spurt and gave the Saints a 12-10 lead. Garcia led the way with five kills and hit .714.
