DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — For the first time since the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional in May, the Flagler College women's tennis team was back on the courts. 

Five returners — Luisa Hrda, Eden Schlagenhauf, Alessandra Traub, Anika Nissen and Florencia Massardo Brain — and a trio of newcomers — Addison Skye Breunich, Ebba Rosberg and Gianna Rosato — competed at the ERAU Open for the three-day tournament in Daytona Beach over the weekend. 

"It is an awesome feeling to be able to compete again," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "I've been looking forward to seeing how the girls will respond since our last collegiate match back in May, and I've also been excited to see our new players in action. We had a great weekend of quality tennis at the ERAU Open and now the team is excited to be able to compete at the ITA Regionals."

Overall in singles, the Saints went 18-3 while doubles' play mirrored a 8-2 record. Flagler will now carry that momentum into Sumter, S.C., where six of the eight student-athletes will compete in the ITA Southeast Regional from Friday to Monday.

Four players — Hrda, Nissen, Rosberg and Schlagenhauf — were perfect in singles play behind a 3-0 record to secure a regional spot, while Massardo Brain was 2-1 and Traub won her lone match to join the other four in South Carolina. In their first collegiate singles' matches, Rosato finished 2-1 and Breunich was 1-1. 

In terms of doubles, the duos of Hrda/Rosberg and Massardo Brain/Nissen led the pack with 2-0 records.

"They know we can have another historic start this weekend at the regional tournament," Puebla said. "I know most of the team worked very hard this summer to achieve great things this fall, and they are excited to get going. It will be a grind this weekend with so many matches in singles and doubles, but I believe we will work very hard to go far!"
