Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 Young Harris edges Flagler, 1-0

ST. AUGUSTINE — The Flagler College men's soccer team held strong in its scrappy, home-opening Peach Belt Conference match against the 20th-ranked Young Harris College Mountain Lions before ultimately falling 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.

Scoreless heading into halftime, the conference foes displayed the same intensity that stemmed from the last matchup in the spring where the Saints left the Mountain Lions' den with a penalty kick shootout in their pocket to advance to the PBC Tournament championship. Flagler went on to win the tournament the following week.

This time around, Young Harris (5-0, 1-0 PBC) was able to get the last say as what proved to be the game-winning goal came in the 58th minute. Young Harris' Saad Maziane took a cross into the box via Pato Padilla to put the visiting team ahead, 1-0.

Shortly after the Mountain Lions went ahead, an hour lightning delay halted play. Flagler (2-3, 1-1) came out of the stoppage with a great scoring chance from team-leading scorer Matteo Costa, but it was hauled in by goalkeeper Eduardo D'Avino to keep it scoreless. Saints' keeper Andrea Lubbia had four saves, while Costa led Flagler with three shots.

Up Next: Flagler will have the week off before traveling to Clayton State University Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
