No. 14 Saints bounce back with Hurricane sweep

AMERICUS, Ga. — A day after a tough loss, the No. 14 Flagler College women's tennis team made sure to finish its two-match Peach Belt Conference road trip on a high note. On Saturday, the Saints marched into the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex and dominated, sweeping Georgia Southwestern University, 7-0, in straight sets across the board.

"It was hard to regroup in less than 24 hours after such a tough match yesterday," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "However, the girls came out very strong and played at a high level to be able to win every match. We are looking forward to going back on the road for another couple of conferences matches this upcoming weekend."

The Saints will finish their five-match road trip with a pair of matches next weekend, beginning with one at Lander April 10 at 11 a.m. followed by the last at Francis Marion University April 11 at 1 p.m.

In a mixed-up look in doubles, Flagler (9-4, 3-1 PBC) took care of business as Amelie Vossgaetter/Luisa Hrda took the unblemished first point, and then Eden Schlagenhauf/Anika Nissen secured the doubles point and Alessandra Traub/Florencia Massardo Brain put the cherry on top with the win in No. 2 doubles.

Massardo Brain won her fifth straight to start the Saints in singles, while Nissen got back on track with a win on the No. 5 court and Traub clinched for her third in a row in the No. 3 slot. With the match already won at 4-0, Schlagenhauf, Hrda and Vossgaetter followed with straight-set wins to solidify the Hurricane sweep. The wins for Schlagenhauf and Hrda put them back in the win column after a pair of tough losses at CSU as Vossgaetter secured her fifth consecutive singles' win.
