Flagler routs No. 14 UNC Pembroke in home finale

ST. AUGUSTINE – John Fiorenza led a 14-hit attack with a pair of doubles and a two-run home run as Flagler College rolled to an 11-1 win over No. 14 (Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 25) UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to six games and improved to 15-20 overall and 14-15 in the Peach Belt. UNC Pembroke dropped to 27-10 overall and 23-7 in conference play.

The Saints wasted little time getting on the board as Myles Colangelo's single to right-center in the first inning plated the first run. Adam Mitchell later scored on a wild pitch to put Flagler on top, 2-0.

Colangelo added a two-run home run in the third to stake the Saints to a 5-0 lead.

That would be all the offense Daniel Fischer (2-1) would need. He tossed six innings and scattered four hits while allowing just one run. Fischer faced the minimum number of batters through 3 2/3 innings. He induced nine ground outs and five fly outs. Jake Hill and Jett Walsh tossed scoreless relief to close the game.

Fiorenza hit a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run home run in the seventh. He finished with three hits, four runs batted in, and he scored two runs. Donovan Garcia went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Colangelo went 2-for-5 with the home run, and three RBI. Matt Burke singled twice and scored two runs.

Jalen Scott (0-3) took the loss for the Braves. He surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

Ramsey Petty went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored the only run for UNC Pembroke.

Prior to the game, the Saints honored their nine seniors: Alex Amos, Chase Carney, Nathan Henderson, Jake Kaufman, Colt Mink, Kyle Morton, Christian O'Kelly, and Jett Walsh.

Flagler concludes its regular season next weekend on the road against Georgia Southwestern State University. The first game is Friday at Americus.
